How group home residents are counted in the national census

Disability Rights is participating in the Texas Be Count Initiative. A fair and accurate census is crucial for people with disabilities – and indeed for every person.

Between March 12 and the 20th, households will begin receiving official Census Bureau mail with detailed information on how to respond to the 2020 Census. Reportedly group homes will be counted through another process, called Group Quarters Operation (GSO). The GSO initial contact begins, reportedly, February 24, 2020. Also for administrators/managers of Group Quarters, the Census Bureau sent the following link; https://2020census.gov/en/conducting-the-count/gq/gqe.html.

What matters is that everyone has an opportunity to be counted. HCS providers are encouraged to be proactive and reach out to the Census Bureau if not contacted.
